WHAT IS IT?

RAKSHA BANDHAN is the festival celebrated to mark the eternal bond between brothers and sisters. It is a Hindu Festival. Brothers and sisters all over the country eagerly wait for this festival throughout the year. It is celebrated with full enthusiasm in India. Age doesn't matter to celebrate Raksha Bandhan sisters of all age tie Rakhi on the wrist of their brothers on this auspicious day. 'RAKSHA' translates to PROTECTION and 'BANDHAN' translates to BOND , thus this festival means ' BOND OF PROTECTION'. It falls in the month of SAWAN as per HINDU CALENDAR usually around in the month of AUGUST.
 



IMPORTANCE? 

We know, the siblings carry in a special place in hearts. But the particular bond of a brother and sister is unique. The care that they have for each other have no boundaries. The love they have can never be compared.

No matter how much they fight with each other, they will always be by one another's back. They share a bond of teasing and love. At every stage of life their bond gets stronger and stronger. They help each other grow. The elder brothers are very protective for their elder sisters, on the other hand elder sisters too care a lot about their younger siblings.

Hence, this festival is to celebrate this bond. It symbolizes this unique and special relationship by brothers and sisters. On this day brothers and sisters spend good time celebrating their bond of love, togetherness, and confidence together.

    कच्चे धागों से बनी डोर है राखी |
        प्यार और मीठी शरारतों की होड़ है राखी ||
भाई की लम्बी उम्र की दुआ है राखी |
बहन के प्यार का धुआं है राखी ||


OCCASION
On this occasion sisters tie a sacred thread that is RAKHI on their brother's wrist to wish them good and healthy life. In return, brothers bless their sisters and pledge to protect them always and care for them till their last breathe. Girls receive too many gifts and pamperings on this day like in the form of chocolates, money, dresses and many more. Indian families usually wear ethnic dresses on the festival. The markets are flooded with numerous numbers of fashionable and designer rakhis. The shopkeepers start selling rakhis 15-20 days before the festival. Girls choose rakhis for their brothers and everyone enjoys going to shopping for the festival.

In conclusion, Raksha Bandhan is the most enjoyable festivals. It let's brothers and sister's strengthen their bond. Nowadays, even sisters who do not have brothers celebrate Raksha Bandhan with their sisters. The essence of the festival remains the same nonetheless.
